I have never heard anyone say that kaatre is Korean before! But perhaps that's because the people I come into contact with tend to not be ignorant. And believe it or not karatay (minus the stupid gansta accent that spelling implies) is pretty close to the Japanese pronunciation.Karate has existed and has been developed for thousands of years, but it is by no means static and unchanging. My family tends to think that it's an ancient art that's passed down exactly the same from generation to generation and that the ancient master's had every last detail figured out. So in that sense, it is a modern art because people who are alive today are tweaking it.
